ZAH W 壟 DJAM 稜L AL- (1863-1936)

Poète et homme politique irakien, Djam 稜l プidq 稜 al-Zah w 稜, possédant à fond l’arabe, le turc et le persan, est, tour à tour, professeur d’arabe à la faculté de droit d’Istanbul, directeur de l’imprimerie officielle de Bagdad, journaliste et traducteur. En 1908, il devient député de l’Irak au Parlement turc. Il défend et gagne le droit à l’instruction pour la femme arabe. Mais il déclenche un tollé général en dénonçant dans ses poèmes les coutumes ancestrales qui maintiennent les femmes claustrées dans le gynécée.

En tant que député, Zah w 稜 a la possibilité de voyager dans le Proche-Orient et de prendre contact avec les poètes A ムmad Shawq 稜, Khal 稜l Mu レr n et ネ fi ワ Ibrah 稜m. Comme eux, il exprime dans des pièces de facture classique des sentiments personnels et des idées modernes. Il exalte le rôle de la science dans le progrès, décrit les machines modernes (L’Automobile ). Lorsque l’Irak est sous mandat britannique, il invite ses compatriotes à secouer le joug de la domination étrangère. Cependant, les faiblesses de son style empêchent de le placer au même rang que Khal 稜l Mu レr n, ネ fi ワ Ibrah 稜m, et surtout A ムmad Shawq 稜.
